The Canadian Taxpayers Federation will soon hit the road, with a 12 foot long debt clock in tow.
Alberta director Derek Filderbrandt tells 660News it’s sad that a province that was debt free 10 years ago, now has a debt of $10 billion dollars , which is rising at a rate of more than $ 4 billion each year.
The CTF plans to travel more than 2,700 kilometers across Alberta, visiting 25 different communities, looking to raise awareness about the province’s gushing debt.
As part of the campaign, MLA’S will be asked to sign the CTF’s ” Balanced Budget and Debt-Free Alberta ” pledge.
Filderbrandt said ” it’s sad to think it was just 10 years ago, late premier Ralph Klein proudly waved a sign that read ‘Paid in Full’ “, referring to the elimination of Alberta’s debt.
He says not only have Alberta’s governing Tories racked up $ 10 billion dollars in new red ink, they also squandered away billions more by wiping out the province’s sustainability fund.
