Alberta plate debate continues

It appears Alberta’s great plate debate is far from over.

The three candidates vying to become the next PC party leader and premier want to revisit the competition to pick the province’s next licence plate.

Thomas Lukaszuk says he wants to open the competition up to allow Alberta companies to design the plate.

Right now, Albertans can vote online until August 19 on three plates designed by U.S. business giant 3M.

Jim Prentice says the new premier will have a say on the issue, and in the meantime he wants to hear from Albertans on a new slogan for the plate and on other possible designs.

Ric McIver says he is not sure what the province has committed to on the plates, but says he would like to see a local design competition.
