Man dies in crash on Hwy 63

Alberta’s “Highway of Death” has claimed another victim.

RCMP say a 66-year old man from Ontario died on scene, after his pick-up truck smashed head on with a gravel truck on Highway 63, 30km south of the turn-off to Highway 881.

Investigators say the pick-up was traveling northbound when it crossed the center line, resulting in the crash shortly after 2:00p.m. Monday.

The stretch of highway between Edmonton, to north of Fort McMurray garnered its nickname because of the number of fatal collisions over the years.

More than 50 people have died on the roadway since 2002.

The Alberta Government is working to twin the roadway in hopes that will reduce the number of serious collisions.
