Alcoholism in middle age could equal memory loss: study

A new U.S. study suggests problem drinking in middle age doubles the risk of memory loss later in life.

Researchers looked at the past alcohol consumption of 6500 people in their 50’s and 60’s.

They found, those who admitted to being criticized for their drinking or having a drink first thing in the morning were more than twice as likely to develop severe memory impairment later on.

The study is in the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry.
