A family of six is out of their home following yet another fire in the Calgary area.
Flames ripped through a home on Whiteland Drive N.E. Thursday morning.
Fire crews were called to the scene at about 4 a.m. and second alarm was called due to the large volume of smoke and flames which could be seen from McKnight Blvd.
After the arriving crews confirmed that all the occupants of the involved homes were safe and accounted for, they deployed large volume hoses and began an aggressive two pronged attack on the involved houses.
Battalion Chief Al Magwood said the fire was quickly brought under control and the damage was contained to the two houses.
“At this point it looks like they’ll be salvageable due to the volume of damage caused by the fire,” he said. “The insurance companies will make that decision”.
As a precaution a number of nearby homes were evacuated, but the occupants have since been allowed back into their houses.
Bill was one of the people evacuated; he said it was a scary morning. “Once we were out of the house and saw flames it was a little bit of a shock,” he said. “But what do you do?”
The cause of the fire is unknown.
