Many of you are likely beginning the trek home after the long weekend.
So far it’s been a pretty safe weekend on our roads, and RCMP want to keep it that way.
Sergeant Jeff Campbell said you’ll see more police than normal.
“We’re stepped up patrols on the major thoroughfares; the TransCanada and the QEII,” says Campbell. “It’s to ensure people get home safely and sound, which is our main primarily objective.”
Part of you getting home safe and sound, is putting down the electronic devices. That’s just one thing RCMP will be keeping their eyes on while patrolling our roads.
“People that are obviously speeding and also aggressive driving, following too close, unsafe lane changes,” says Campbell. “So again, distracted driving and people texting and/or talking on their cell phones while driving.”
The best way to avoid a ticket is to plan ahead.
“They can’t be having a map across their steering wheel trying to find where they’re going, they can’t be trying to input into their GPS devices while they’re driving, they need to sort all that out prior to heading off to their trip home,” says Campbell.
He said they’ll be watching for speeding, as well as aggressive, and distracted driving.
