Microsoft saves Apple on this day in 1997

It was 17 years ago Wednesday that Microsoft stepped in to help save their struggling Silicon Valley nemesis Apple.

Steve Jobs and Apple agreed to drop a long-running lawsuit that alleged Microsoft copied the look and feel of the Mac OS for Windows.

In exchange, Bill Gates and Microsoft invested $150-million into Apple and would support Office for the Mac for five years.

The uproar these constant rivals caused by the agreement made way for the founders of Google to quietly lay the groundwork in launching their search engine one year later.
