Mobile home destroyed by fire

Around 4:30 Tuesday afternoon, fire crews were called to the Blackfoot Mobile Home Park just off Blackfoot Trail in southeast Calgary.

Carol Henke says there was one person in the home at the time and he was lucky he had a guardian angel.

“The lone occupant of the residence did make it out, but it was with the help of the neighbour, so without that neighbour it might have been a much different story,” said Henke.

She says crews will be on scene for a while.

“We continue to pull the roof off to put out any hot-spots that are found in there.”

Henke adds residents need to make sure their smoke detectors are working.

“After having a discussion with the lone resident, he wasn’t alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm, he was alerted by a neighbour who saw the smoke coming from the window and so it just reinforces how important smoke alarms are.”

A pet rabbit which was in the residence is missing.
