A political scientist at Mount Royal University says the sudden resignation of Alison Redford as the MLA for Calgary-Elbow will not end the controversy over her time as Premier.
Lori Williams tells 660News, while she doubts the Auditor General’s special report into expenses as well as the use of government aircraft while she was Premier will lead to criminal charges,Redford’s decisions and actions will continue to influence the party moving forward.
As for the need to fill her vacant seat in the legislature, Williams said that decision will be made by the next leader of the PC party, who will be elected after Labour Day.
Williams also suggests the dark cloud Redford cast over the party is already starting to clear, pointing to the fact former Tory MLA Donna Kennedy-Glans , who quit the party back in March to sit as an independent , is now looking to return at the request of her constituents.
