The average Canadian spends more on taxes than on the necessities of life.
That’s according to a new study by the Fraser Institute.
The report says the average Canadian paid almost 42 per cent of their income last year towards taxes, compared to 36 per cent for food, shelter and clothing.
Tax bills in this country have shot up 1,832 per cent since 1961.
Back then, the average Canadian paid 56 per cent of their pay towards the necessities, and only 33 per cent was taken by taxes.
