CTF raises red flag again on subsidized housing

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is putting pressure on the province to change the rules, so high income earners aren’t allowed to continue living in subsidized housing.

Derek Fildebrandt tells City News, through access to information, they discovered dozens of people making more than $100,000 a year, are taking up space in Calgary Housing Corporation buildings

“We found about 370 people making more than $60,000 dollars a year,” says Fildebrandt. “You know, $60,000 you’re not wealthy, but at 60-thousand you are expected to stand on your own two feet at that point.”

He says under current legislation, the housing corporation can’t evict these people, and that’s why the province needs to step in.

The report comes just a week after social agency, Inn from the Cold called this summer the worst yet for families being left homeless in Calgary and having to sleep on the floors at shelters.
