Taking a “Walkabout” in Eau Claire

The City of Calgary is looking for public input about what to do to enhance the green space along the pathway in Eau Claire, near the Peace Bridge.

The timing is perfect for the Eau Claire Community Association, as they ramp up attempts to build the community’s growing and relatively new residential component.

Board member Karen Stiefenhofer told 660News, they’re doing a first ever ‘walkabout’ in the neighbourhood from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

“It’s a great way to generate ideas,” she said. “For instance, walk by an area and say, hey, wouldn’t it be great to have a pizza joint here? Or what about this sidewalk, it’s a little dangerous, let’s get that looked at, or what do we do about graffiti?”

She said it’s an exciting time for Eau Claire and Calgary’s core, as more people start living in the downtown, instead of just commuting in from the suburbs.

The city has set up a ‘sounding board’ near the Peace Bridge where people can leave comments about the green space, but will also be doing further consultation this fall.
