Tuscany Station opens for service Monday

The northwest Tuscany LRT station was four years in the making and starting this Monday, it will be open for service.

Located less than three kilometres west of Crowfoot Station, it will serve about 40,000 people in the communities of Rocky Ridge, Royal Oak and Tuscany.

“A station like this costs about 125 million dollars,”  Mayor Naheed Nenshi said at a celebration for the station Saturday.

“It’s an investment that’s well worth making. With the limited funds we have right now, we decided that we want to do even more in more parts of the city, which is why we are building these seven transit ways in every quadrant, in every corner of the city.”

The cost of the station was divided between the federal, provincial and municipal governments.

The new extension will save over $1 million a year by reducing the need for two buses daily.

The City of Calgary also says it will decrease round trip time for buses, cut fuel consumption and reduces vehicle wear and tear in the long term.

More than 300,000 people ride the C-Train in Calgary every weekday.
