The Calgary Board of Education and Southland Transportation have purchased 60 new school buses that run on propane, in addition to the 30 that were tested out last year.
Darlene Unruh, the CBE’s Director of Transportation, tells 660News the propane buses are better for the environment.
“More importantly, they help us set an example for our students to develop good citizenship behaviour and lifelong environmental habits as well,” said Unruh.
The propane buses drastically cut hydrocarbon emissions, have a longer 10-year-lifespan than their diesel counterparts, and are more reliable in the winter.
