Human remains found in K-Country

RCMP confirm the remains of a man have been found in Kananaskis Country.

Corporal Mike Dunsmore says a missing hunter was reported on September 7th.

“Searchers encountered a sow grizzly and a cub in the area, which in part caused them to discontinue their search. They resumed on the 8th of September and as a result of that search, the remains of a hunter were located in that general area.”

Dunsmore continued, “It appears from the investigation that the overdue hunter was the victim of a fatal bear attack.”

While the next of kin have been notified, police will not be releasing the name of the hunter, out of respect for the family.

Monday, the province set up several new warning signs and taped off areas, marking them closed as a result of bear activity.
