Envrionment Canada has ended a snowfall warning for the City of Calgary.
The advisory warned of five centimetres of snow, with the possibility higher amounts could occur in some areas at higher elevations.
660 Meteorologist David Spence explains such a warning is merely precautionary.
“In normal cases a snowfall warning is issued when you expect a whole lot of snow,” said Spence. “But when the first snowfall of the season comes, snowfall warnings can be issued for as little as 5 centimetres of snow. It is just because it is the first snowfall of the season and we’re not used to it.”
Enmax responded to several reports of power outages as snapped tree branches wreaked some havoc in a number of communities around the city.
Calgary fire responded to at least 125 calls in a three hour span, during rush hour, Monday.
Social media was buzzed with pictures and chatter of the early arrival of the winter weather.
Environment Canada says flurries could be in the forecast through Wednesday, though more seasonably appropriate temperatures are expected to return for the weekend.
