Canada’s welcoming Colombia to Halifax and the winner of the tie will advance to the World Group next season. For the red and white, it’s a chance to reclaim their spot in the elite group.
“You don’t win this and you go back to zone play,” said Damien Cox of Sportsnet.
“Sometimes, it can take you a long time to get back to the World Group. Then, often, your best players aren’t always as available to play. Canada’s defining itself as an up and coming tennis nation partially because what it’s doing in Davis Cup. I think it would be a shame if were to fall out of the World Group at this point.”
Canada is currently ranked No. 8 in the world. In head to head matches with Colombia, Canada holds a 5-4 record.
Milos Raonic, Vasek Pospisil and Daniel Nestor are all scheduled to play, while Frank Dancevic is a spare.
Sportsnet One will carry each match live.
