A Calgary Imam wants to see charges laid against a woman he says hit him with her car on purpose.
Syed Soharwardy, the founder of Muslims Against Terrorism, tells 660News the woman called him a “terrorist” and “a threat to Canada.”
Soharwardy says the incident happened Friday afternoon as he was walking outside the Genesis Centre in the city’s northeast, on his way to lead prayers.
He says he had to jump out of the way as a woman clipped him with her car and, when he asked her what was going on, she started hurling insults and obscenities at him.
Despite word earlier that he just wanted to put what happened behind him, he says he wants to see the woman held accountable.
However, the Imam says the incident also made it clear he has a lot more work to do.
“This is absolutely a horrible thing. It bothers me but it also gives me encouragement that there are still Canadians who do not know me and my Muslim community and I still have to work with them and still have to educate them that all Muslims are not terrorists,” says Soharwardy.
Soharwardy says he plans to meet with police Sunday to talk about what happened.
He says he did get the woman’s license plate number.
