First ever air mail displayed at Alberta Aviation Museum

A piece of aviation history will be on display starting Friday here in Alberta.

The very first letter delivered by air mail has been donated to the Alberta Aviation Museum in Edmonton.

The piece of mail was flown July 9, 1918 from Calgary to Edmonton by a female pilot named Katherine Stinson.

A replica of the primitive aircraft, which had no navigation instruments or equipment, is also on display, along with a few newspaper articles and historical photos.

The letter was addressed to Duncan Marshall Jr., the son of the then-Minister of Agriculture.
