Prentice addresses challenges to Northern Gateway

Premier Jim Prentice says it will be challenging to get approval for Northern Gateway Pipeline if the project ends in Kitimat, B.C.

Prentice says there are other options from which to get heavy oil onto tankers and transport them to Asian ports.

He tells The Globe and Mail, the environmental concerns of First Nations need to be respected.

The Premier says he is optimistic a solution can be found that will allow Albertans to gain access to tidewater, but also address objections from B.C First Nations.

Prentice tells the paper, wherever Northern Gateway ends up, it will be a “huge economic driver” but we need to talk about what the role of aboriginal people will be and how they will benefit.
