No more cuts to teachers.
That coming from the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) after the province introduced the idea of a nine per cent rollback Wednesday.
“Zero, zero and zero. That is what teachers have gained in the last three years,” says ATA President Mark Ramsankar.
He’s against further cuts to teachers, calling it a direct hit on programs, staff and resources for our schools.
He said there is a better solution to the province’s budget shortfall.
“It’s totally unrealistic to expect that we are going to be able to pull ourselves out of this particular financial crunch with austerity measures that focus solely on cutting spending,” he said.
Ramsankar said a fair and just corporate tax would help get Alberta back in black.
