Calgary Parking Authority preparing to roll out new technology

As the City of Calgary works towards leasing out the ParkPlus technology to other cities in the region, it’s already looking forward to the next version of our system and the future of parking is only months away.

For around the last year, the Calgary Parking Authority has been testing a system that doesn’t need drivers to call in where they’ve parked or put their license plate info into one of the kiosks on the street.

Manager of Business Development Wes Hogman explained all they have to do is park and walk away.

“The technology is at the point now where you can put a device into your vehicle, connect it into the onboard diagnostic port and when the car stops it automatically activates your parking on the ParkPlus account and when you start up again it will automatically deactivate the parking,” he said.

He said the benefit is that you’ll never have to worry about getting a ticket.

Hogman explained the entire city has already been mapped by the company they’re working with and he hopes the system will be introduced in the next couple of months.
