A day to thank transit drivers

Expect to hear an extra “thank you” here or there while taking transit Wednesday for Thank Your Driver Day in Calgary.

There are 2,000 bus, C-train and shuttle drivers in the city.

Rick Wilson, a transit operator with Calgary Transit for the last decade tells 660News the job has its challenges.

“We are charged with the responsibility of safely carrying the public from point A to point B and that can be very challenging given road conditions and other drivers on the road,” explained Wilson.

He said he has already reaped the benefits of grateful passengers in the past.

“I’ve had passengers give me candies and one passenger a number of years ago, she had extra apples from her apple tree in her back yard and she gave me a couple of apples,” Wilson said.

Passengers are encouraged to show their gratitude by saying ‘thanks’, give a smile or a wave, or can tweet @CALGARYTRANSIT with #ThanksCT.
