One man is in police custody following an alleged assault in Prince’s Island Park that left a woman with serious injuries.
Detective Jack Russell said police were called to a wooded area on the park around 6 p.m. Wednesday evening and found the victim, who said she was struck in the head several times with a rock.
Russell says the suspect managed to escape before they got to the area, but was later tracked down.
“The main suspect was located at the Drop-In Centre,” Russell said. “He has been interviewed and subsequently charged with the offense of assault. He’s also got multiple outstanding warrants against him.”
The suspect’s name has not been released pending an appearance before a Justice of the Peace.
The woman was taken to hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries.
