After launching her campaign in Edmonton Tuesday morning, Alberta NDP Leader Rachel Notley did the same in Calgary in the afternoon.
She was joined by supporters and candidates in front of McDougall Centre and said she believes the party will have a breakthrough across the province, including Calgary.
“Calgary is one place we know we have to do well if we’re going to be seen as capable of forming the government quite frankly,” she said.
Notley said details of her platform will come out in the coming days and she is planning a busy schedule outside the party’s base in Edmonton.
“I’ve only seen the first four or five days of my campaign schedule, but it makes me very tired,” she said. “There’s a lot of travel all over the province and that will be the pace over the course of the campaign.”
The leader opted not to attempt to distinguish herself from the other opposition parties, instead attacking Premier Jim Prentice and the PCs.
“There’s another person, one apparently, only one, in this election who is also applying for the job of premier,” she said of Prentice. “He’s telling you that the PCs, the very people that got us into this mess, the very people who got us into a mess that’s going to take us at least 10 years to get out of, that those are the ones we should be voting for.”
“Albertans don’t need and in fact can’t afford another four years of this old, tired and unaccountable PC government, with its old, tired promises and its questionable ethics.”
She also addressed Prentice’s calling other parties “extreme.”
“If Jim Prentice wants to say that the 69 per cent of people who think corporations should pay their fair share are extreme, well fill your boots, go ahead, that’s not extreme, that’s democracy,” she said.
