A fire has caused significant damage to a home in the northwest community of Montgomery and also killed two cats.
Fire crews were called to the 4600 block of 21st Avenue Thursday afternoon after a neighbour called 911.
Jacob Kelly, who lives across the street, said he didn’t think anything of the smoke he saw from the home at first.
“Just saw some smoke coming out the back and I figured because it was such a nice day out people might being having a nice fire in the backyard, but then it was just increasing to the point where you couldn’t even see down the block and then yah, it was the fire,” Kelly said.
A fire spokesperson said crews found the cats inside unresponsive at which point they gave CPR and oxygen masks to both, but were unable to revive them.
Three people live at the home, but they weren’t home at the time of the fire.
