Though the ‘C’ of red has overtaken Calgary, Sunday at City Hall it was a call for more green.
A rally for action on climate change took place with over 100 in attendance.
One of the speakers at the rally, Bill Phipps said he wants to leave a better world for his grandchildren.
“I think climate change is the embracing issue of our time, everything else is related to that,” he said. “If we do not deal with climate change we won’t have anything to deal with because we won’t be here,” Phipps said.
Phipps wants to put water on the idea that action on climate change and economics have to be opposed to each other, saying there are plenty of jobs in the renewable sector.
While the rally went outside of their place of work, some city councillors joined in.
Ward 11 Councillor Brian Pincott told 660News the city has been busy helping the cause, but needs to do more.
“Calgary has done a lot of stuff around reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but has done it very quietly,” he said. “It’s not how you show leadership, that’s not how you send the message that this makes environmental sense and makes economic sense,” Pincott said.
Ward 7’s Druh Farell praised the city, saying they are using green energy at all city buildings and for the LRT system.
