Calgary-Elbow forum becomes two-way debate

The two power houses in Calgary-Elbow were duking it out over education at an all-candidates’ debate Sunday night.

Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark blamed Education Minister Gordon Dirks for a shortage of teachers for incoming new students.

The incumbent MLA countered by saying schools should be tapping into the reserve funds that are available to them.

Clark told City News, he feels it will be a two horse race for the riding.

“It is Gordon Dirks or me, I am the only one who can beat Gordon Dirks in Calgary-Elbow, what we have seen a lot of people who want something other than the PCs, something better than the PCs and they are getting behind our campaign,” Greg Clark said.

Dirks wouldn’t say if he thinks Clark is his biggest competition.

“Well I’m not really going to comment on any of my opponents’ views. I’m running to the very best that I can, to represent the people of Calgary-Elbow, and to win their support,” he said.

Also lending their voices to the debate were NDP Candidate Catherine Welburn and the Liberals’ John Roggeveen.

The Wildrose’s Megan Brown, and Social Credit Party Candidate Larry Heather were no-shows.
