Another big slump for home sales in Calgary.
The Calgary Real Estate Board reports, less than 2,000 properties were bought in April, a nearly 23 per cent plunge from the same month last year.
However, it is a slight uptick from sales in March.
Home prices are starting to slip, but not by much. The median price in April was only two percent lower than 2014, at just under $420,000.
The president of the real estate board, Corinne Lyall, tells 660News, Calgary is high on the affordability index.
“I think that goes to a number of things,” she said. “One is that we’re in a great situation for people that are entrepreneurs. The tax benefits for small businesses is fantastic. We tend to attract a younger demographic that look at Calgary and kinda see there’s a lot of opportunity here to build wealth.”
They have a lot more to choose from, with listings nearly double last year. Also nearly double is the number of days homes are staying on the market.
It’s now up to 40 days.
