The Calgary Roughnecks are headed to the playoffs for the 13th straight season.
The Riggers beat Vancouver 14-13 to secure their post-season spot and set up a date with Colorado.
For Andrew McBride, it’s a new beginning.
“It’s a clean slate,” the long-time captain explained. “We’re really excited to have this opportunity. We expect nothing but a championship here. That’s always the feeling from the start of the year. We’re excited to go into a new season. Colorado is a great team. They have a lot of fire power and we’ve had two overtime games with them this year. It’s going to be a tough challenge, in a very tough environment.”
The Roughnecks started the season with a record of 0-6, but used their experience to claw their way back.
“It was one of those things about not panicking,” he said. “We knew we had a very talented team that was two minutes away from winning a championship last year. The organization showed a lot of confidence in bringing us back. We knew with a veteran team that we’d be able to battle back if we believed in ourselves.”
Calgary will face the Mammoth in a single-elimination opening round game of the NLL playoffs on Saturday, May 9th at 7 p.m.
