Calgary has brush with snow

It was a big surprise for some, but for others just another typical day in May in southern Alberta.

Some residents in Airdrie and parts of Calgary woke up to a thin layer of snow on their front lawns Monday.

Huddled in bus shelters, those waiting for the CTrain downtown, couldn’t remember a spring where we didn’t get a little blast of winter.

“I just sort of assume it’s going to at this point. You don’t put jackets away, until like September, when you take them out again,” Caitlin said. “When I moved here in June (six years ago), it snowed within like three days, so — it’s Calgary.”

Maureen shrugged off the wet flakes while pulling out her umbrella.

“Guess we were due for one more snowfall,” she said.
