Simpsons actor Harry Shearer leaving

A star of The Simpsons is calling it quits after 26 seasons.

Actor Harry Shearer, who voices a long list of characters including Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner, and Smithers, made the announcement on twitter.

Shearer says he wants the freedom to do other work.

FOX confirmed just last week the long running series was renewed for two more seasons.

Shearer wished Executive Producer James L. Brooks “the very best”, and tweeted a statement from Brooks’ lawyer that said “the show would go on.”
