After 44 years of the Progressive Conservatives in power, the NDP will have many challenges developing a new government.
That, coming from former provincial NDP leader Ray Martin who tells the Edmonton Sun, although there are many rookie politicians in the party, he believes they have a strong leader.
Martin says, “It’s a massive job, but I think Rachel Notley is up to it; it’s one thing to win a seat, but it’s another entirely to sit in it. The NDP party, with a host of rookie politicians will have their work cut out for them as they form government.”
He adds the NDP government is entering a hard fiscal time, especially since oil hasn’t recovered and says he heard voters were tired of the P-C government and their constant mistakes, but the NDP win did surprise him.
Martin led the NDP to victory in 1986 and was leader until 1994.
