Two collisions make for end to long weekend

A pair of serious crashes have marked the end of the May long weekend.

Four people were injured after midnight near Canmore, when RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 1.

Mounties say the driver tried to jump out of the vehicle at Exit 93, and lost control.

After the crash, the driver fled the scene.

Four passengers were transported to Canmore General Hospital in non-life threatening condition.

RCMP say charges are being considered against the driver.

Around 12:30 a.m., a woman in her 20’s was rushed to hospital with serious and potentially life threatening injuries after hitting a light standard at McKnight Blvd. and Barlow Tr. N.E. in Calgary.

The crash is expected to affect the morning commute as crew will work to replace the light.

The westbound turn lane onto south Barlow Tr. will also be closed and is not expected to re-open until noon at the earliest.
