Despite some site closures, Canadian Blood Services still needs you

Canadian Blood Services wants you to keep donating.

A story from the Canadian Press Friday stated that four permanent sites and 16 mobile clinics across the country were being eliminated.

Here in Alberta, only one mobile clinic in Three Hills will close its doors.

Susan Matsumoto, Director, Donor Relations for Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories with Canadian Blood Services wants to make it clear: demand is lower right now, but people should still be rolling up their sleeves.

“The clinics we continue to operatre require support from donors and new people to come step forward,” she said. “In fact, on a regular basis, about 40 per cent of individuals who are blood donors stop donating after about 12 months.”

She adds, demand is down because of efficiencies made at various hospitals.
