Hail storm knocks out power into weekend

Those in the Medicine Hat area that were still without power overnight because of Friday’s hail storm, should be back online sometime Saturday morning.

It was the second morning in a row where people in southern or central Alberta woke up wondering just how bad the damage was from a storm system the day before.

660News heard reports of trees uprooted and thousands of dollars’ worth of damage in this latest round.

Peter Brodsky, a spokesperson with AltaLink said they planned to work hard through the night to get power back for about 4,000 customers.

“Three of our lines have sustained some damage,” Brodsky said. “AltaLink and Fortis are working together to return power to that area.”

Medicine Hat and the surrounding area was struck hard with hail, extreme winds and downpours going into the weekend.
