Bicycle sales up in Calgary

It may be too early to tell if people are buying up bikes to ride Calgary’s new cycle track.

Ryan Probert at The Bike Shop says sales are up, but that may not be solely due to the new lanes installed downtown.

“We’re having great weather this spring and summer, so maybe we’re seeing an increase because of that,” he said. “We were seeing an existing growth in cycling, commuter cycling, and urban cycling previous to that, so, yes, it continues to grow, but how much can we account to the cycle path? It’s hard to say.”

Probert says it appears more people are cycling downtown because of the track, but it could be the same cyclists that used to take various routes now all gather along the track instead.
