Voter turnout highest since 1993

Elections Canada says more than 17.5-million Canadians cast a ballot in this federal election, putting the early tally on voter turnout at just over 68 per cent.

That’s the highest since 1993.

Just 61 per cent voted in the last federal election in 2011.

A number of regions turned Liberal red after Monday’s vote — all of Toronto’s 25 seats were won by the Liberals, as were all 32 seats in Atlantic Canada.

The Liberals won the majority of seats in Quebec and Ontario, made gains in Manitoba and Alberta, and grew from two to 18 ridings in B-C.
