The Calgary Poppy Fund kicks off its annual campaign at Chinook Centre this morning.
A colour parade will travel from Chapters to Centre Court at 10:35 a.m. with the official ceremony at 11.
David Howard with the Canadian Legacy Project says the Poppy Fund is key to helping local veterans.
“We have a lot of vets that are suffering, young kids coming back from Afghanistan with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder having a hard time getting jobs. Acknowledging our veterans and our soldiers and the hard work, and putting their lives on the line for what we enjoy as Canadians and Calgarians should be remembered.”
The Poppy Fund, which runs the Veteran’s Food Bank, coincides with the Field of Crosses Memorial project.
It starts Sunday and runs every day until November 11th on Memorial drive, a formal ceremony will be held including a lone bugler at sunrise.
