You may be all brushed up on your winter driving skills once again, following a fairly significant taste of winter in the Calgary area Monday morning.
Some hate it, others see it as a pleasant sign of the holidays.
Either way, Brittany Kustra with the City of Calgary Roads Department tells 660 NEWS that they’ve been preparing for this.
“We’ve got about 400 bodies that are snow and ice control for the season,” Kustra said. “We did put some salt down last night on bridges and trouble spots just to get ready. We’re just kind of monitoring the situation right now and putting crews out there as required.”
Conditions were especially bad southwest of the city, where a number of vehicles hit the ditch on a very icy Highway 22 between Priddis and Bragg Creek.
Traffic is once again moving smoothly on that stretch.
Meteorologist David Spence said you can expect more snowfall later on, toward late afternoon and early evening.
Some are excited about the change in weather, like the people at Canada Olympic Park.
Spokesperson Dale Oviatt said that they’ve been waiting for winter to help with snow-making on the slopes.
“We’re not quite to where we want to be in terms of the coldness. Calgarians don’t want to hear it, but we need it to be a little bit colder. The forecast the rest of this week looks like overnight we should be able to start our snow-making,” Oviatt said. “Essentially we need about minus two or colder to make good quality snow.”
