Calgary’s Hussaini Association condemns Paris attacks

A Calgary group is calling it “sad and shameful” as it condemns the actions of those involved in the Paris attacks.

The Hussaini Association of Calgary says that while Islamic State attackers may claim they were motivated by Islam, this is far from any Abrahamic teachings.

“They’re just spreading the hatred and they kill everyone – Muslims, Jews, Christians, whoever they want to,” says spokesperson Riyaz Khawaja. “They just want to spread the fear and terror among humans which is really sad and shameful.”

Khawaja also pointed to recent attacks carried out by the Islamic State in Lebanon and Afghanistan and says “we must not allow those who commit acts of terrorism or violent extremism to succeed in their attempt to spread fear and division.”

A vigil is scheduled for tomorrow at the Hussaini Association in the southeast from 3 – 6 p.m.
