Trending: Man marvels at technology after serving 44 years in prison

After spending 44 years in prison, Otis Johnson headed straight to Times Square in New York City to find an unrecognizable world filled with mystifying technological advancements.

The video, which shows Johnson both bemused and confused by the changes, was produced by Al Jazeera English and has been viewed on YouTube more than 2.5 million times.

Johnson went to prison at the age of 25 for attempted murder and assault on a police officer.

He was recently released at the age of 69.

The video shows him befuddled by the barrage of video billboards and electronic ads that plaster the iconic square.

“I ain’t never seen nothing like this before,” he says while surveying the scene. “Look. On the windows?

“My re-entry was a little bit hard at first because things had changed,” he admits.

Johnson was behind bars when smartphones swept the world. He was confused by people talking into headsets and through ear buds.

“I seen that everybody, or the majority of people were talking to themselves,” he observed.

“Then I looked closer and they seemed to have things in their ears, iPhones they call them, or something like that. And I thought to my mind, what (has) everybody became CIA or agents or something like that?”

“Some people are not even looking where they’re going.”
