Upside down, wall-mounted or tabletop: a guide to Christmas trees

It might be more complicated than real or fake: there’s a lot of choice out there if you’re shopping for a Christmas tree, whether you looking for an easy set-up or something more elaborate.

There are also a lot of new trends that may have taken over since you bought that aluminium one that’s getting worse for the wear.

Linda Pieper, Retail Manager at Blue Grass Garden Centre in Balzac, says there is something to suit every decor.

“We have different colours: we’ve got whites and blacks and greens, and snow-tipped trees,” she explained.

There are even half trees mounted to the wall.

“So, when you’re in the condos, it doesn’t take up near the amount of space, because it’s basically flat on one side, and you can put it right up against the wall. So you still have a great looking tree, but it doesn’t take up the space,” she said.

Another space saver for the more adventurous: the self-explanatory upside down tree.

“The other flip side to that is a lot of large trees, you know anything 10 foot plus, because you know there’s people who have those fabulous vaulted ceilings and what not now, where they can handle a big tree,” she said.

If you’re not planning on chopping down your own, there is also plenty of the real kind available for sale too.

Pieper says the most popular are the Fraser and the Balsam Fir.
