The mayor of Grande Cache fears what the phase-out of coal could mean to his community.
It’s a town not far from the British Columbia border, and hundreds of it’s residents depend on the survival of the local mine.
“There are so many unknowns to the average person that it’s somewhat frightening to people who’s livelihood has been dependent on coal,” Herb Castle, the town’s mayor, said.
Castle hopes the mine they have will get back into operation soon, but first, he feels they have to get rid of the dismal cloud hanging over coal.
He wants an educational component so they know how to move forward with this plan.
Castle wants people to know that coal is not the dirty fuel that some are making it out to be.
