Salvation Army dealing with major increase in demand

The Salvation Army is still trying to find volunteers for their yearly Kettle Campaign.

According to the Sally Ann, individuals or even friends and family members can stand with one of their iconic kettles and ring the bells.

This, as they to cope with a jump in demand for their services.

Captain Pam Goodyear said they’ve seen a 30 per cent increase in people looking for help.

“That’s not just the toys for Christmas, which went up 25 per cent last year,” she told 660 NEWS. “Even to maintain that is significant. We provided toys last year for over 7,400 children and teens. We’re seeing that number increase.”

“What’s happening is a lot of people who gave to the Salvation Army are now the people coming and looking for services.”

While demand is up, fundraising is down from last year. Goodyear is hoping the Kettle Campaign can help them make up for the shortfall.
