Former TV host facing more than 150 charges under fair trade act

A Calgary-based home renovation company, as well as it’s owner, former host of popular home renovation show “Remodel It,” are facing 180 regulatory charges following a year-long investigation by Service Alberta.
The Remodelers Ltd., and its subsidiary, the Remodelers Special Projects Ltd., as well as Bruce Hopkins, are charged.
In November of 2014, Service Alberta received complaints from 27 people following the bankruptcy of the companies.
Of those 27 complainants, 22 have resulted in charges, including operating without a pre-paid contractor license, misleading consumers and failing to provide refunds.
The loss of those 22 totals around $5 million, and mean Hopkins could face up to a two-year jail sentence or a significant financial penalty.
