Calgary bishop encouraging Canadians to help refugees

A Calgary Catholic leader says we should help refugees who have escaped an oppressive regime in Syria.

Bishop Fred Henry is commenting after what he called outrageous remarks made by Donald Trump.

He says we need to step up because these families are in desperate need.

“I think that we are trying to do the best that we can with respect to screening and at the same time reach out to the most vulnerable of the refugees, those who are persecuted, whose lives are really at risk, some whose lives are not even safe in United Nations camps,” he said.

Henry says Pope Francis has announced the Vatican will be adopting a family, and is encouraging people around the world to be generous as well.
