Calgary police have made two separate arrests in two different murder cases in the city.
The first arrest is in relation to a murder in late September.
Police have charged a second man in connection with the murder, which took place in the southeast community of Forest Lawn.
On the morning of September 30th, officers responded to a check on welfare call in the 2600 block of 43 St. S.E.
They found the body of 34-year-old Jonathan Schmeikal, who died of gunshot wounds.
In October, police charged 25-year-old Jerry Cody Goodeagle with second-degree murder in relation to the case and have now charged 37-year-old Dyson White with the same count.
White will appear in court on January 5th.
Police believe the victim was driven around in a stolen car before he was killed and that the shooting could have been drug-related.
The second arrest happened in Vancouver, where a suspect wanted for manslaughter and robbery in Calgary was located.
Rory Martin Stevens was wanted in connection to the October death of Christopher Stephen Tooley.
On October 11th, Calgary police responded to a call in the 700 block of 12 Ave. S.W., where they found Tooley’s body. A cause of death has not yet been released.
Police believe Tooley met with Stevens before an altercation took place. They believe Stevens stole Tooley’s bag and fled the scene on foot. This is not being called a random attack, and officers believe drugs may have played a role in the death.
Stevens was arrested in Vancouver on Wednesday, and will be transported back to Calgary. His next court date has not yet been set.
