Senior killed in car vs. LRT crash

A 73-year-old man is dead after the car he was driving collided with a C-Train in the northeast.

Police say just before 4:30 Saturday afternoon, the vehicle was heading northbound on 36th Street and tried to make a left-hand turn onto 12th Avenue, when it was struck by a northbound C-Train, hitting the driver’s side of the car.

The C-Train pushed the car nearly 55 metres before coming to a rest.

The man was rushed to hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.

His 71-year-old female passenger was taken to Foothills in critical condition.

The C-Train operator was not hurt.

Any witnesses are being asked to call the Calgary Police Traffic Section.
