Canadians spending less on Christmas

A new poll from CIBC shows spending on Christmas gifts is down this year, and a majority aren’t done shopping with just four days to go.
Nearly 70 per cent say they still need to find presents, with nearly an even split of them being men and women.
So far Canadians have spent about $600 on gifts, which is down from $678 last year.
Shoppers at CF Chinook Centre tell CityNews, they’re spending less.
“I think the gifts I’m trying to bring out have a little more meaning, if they are going to be a little less expensive, something that touches the heart a little more than something they will just throw away in the next few months,” said one mall-goer.
Albertans are third highest in the nation in gift spending at $630, trailing B.C. and Atlantic Canada.
